Wired Wednesday

YAY Wednesday! NOT! Longest day ever today and it's still not done, but there was new coffee to explore so there we are.  Wired coffee sits tucked back in a little plaza just off of Lindbergh in the little haven of Sunset hills.  Okay, maybe not a haven, but a pretty great place nonetheless.  On my break in between school and work (because I don't do anything else....ever) I hopped down the road back to this little hole in the wall.

Mixed it up a little today and went for a dirty chai over ice.  They made it with spiced tea and it was AWESOME!!! I never thought I would like anything chai....sounds funny to me, but it was the perfect jump start I needed before I headed to the lobby for a gross nine hour shift.

Hope your having fun staying caffeinated with me and enjoy the new places to explore.  We'll see where we get to tomorrow :)

Monday Night Traditions

Well it's not Monday anymore....not even close but on Monday, I did head back to my new favorite coffee shop :)

I am officially obsessed with MoKaBe's thanks to said boyfriend who is encouraging and helping my starbucks ban lol.  He's the best! So magically I ended up there again to study and try something new. Their list of lattes is fantastic! So number two on the long list of drinks I am soon going to consume was Becky's Bitchin' Brew.  A yummy mix of Swiss chocolate and Irish cream.  So good! And it complimented my completely vegan vegetable soup perfectly.

Sadly, Tuesday was the day of sad coffee. Crazy busy and the place I was going to try was closed by the time I got there.....I digress and will stop moping.  Promise.  But I can verify that QT's frozen cappuccino and coffee are not bad.....not great, but they got the job done.  Well that's it for now. Happy coffee tasting :)

So nice I had to go twice....

In one day! Kirkwood is one of my favorite neighborhoods to hang out in in St. Louis.  It's so homey and eccelctic.  I love it! So today I stopped by the neighborhood for a small break from my my crazy schedule.  Lo and behold there was a Kaldi's!

Back in the day.....it was a Wednesday.  In the student union at the good ol' Mo State we had one of these.  It was good , but back then I was not as involved with coffee as I am now. :) So, I decided to try it out.  First and foremost the atmosphere was spectacular. Relaxing, vibrant, and welcoming, and that was just the inside.  They have an adorable little patio area outside with tables and the like facing Kirkwood road right next to the farmer's market.  And with a day like today, who could resist basking in the sunshine out there.

Now for the coffee.  I went for something different. Their special for the month is the Brown Sugar Rosemary Latte. A  delightfully surprising blend of their signature espresso 700 with milk (soy for me of course) and sweetened by creating a homemade syrup of rich brown sugar and vanilla infused with a hint of rosemary.  (direct quote from the super cool chalkboard menu).  SO DELICIOUS!!!!! Very different than anything I have ever had.  It was sweet yet savory and is still making my mouth water just thinking about it.

And because I just couldn't resist another bit of coffee after a shift at Charlotte, I had to go back and grab another drink.  And of course the place was just as beautiful at night as it was during the day.

I really thought about just getting another brown sugar rosemary latte (was so close to doing it too), but in the spirit of my starbucks ban and trying to branch out to new things, I went with one of their coffee frappes instead.  Chocolate mint! Okay so not a new flavor for me, but a new frappe blend I suppose.  And again, Kaldi's hit the nail on the delicious head.  AMAZING!!!! Chugged that sucker down!

Well, now that I'm fully caffeinated I suppose I should go be productive. Cheers everyone and enjoy your daily cup o' joe on me :)

Coffee Challenge

A coffee lover's conundrum.  I am a huge Starbucks drinker, but as of recently I have wanted to branch out of my coffee comfort zone.  I love trying all new kinds of coffee where ever I go, especially when I travel.  But I've been in a coffee funk for awhile so I decided to give myself a challenge.  I also wanted to up my support for local independent businesses in the St. Louis area while I'm still here.  So, with massive encouragement and help from my boyfriend, I am going to explore my caffeinated options. A coffee lover's conundrum, if you will.  I am going to try a new flavor/coffee fixin' or coffee shop throughout the month of December.  It will be my month ban of Starbucks.  So here's to all my fellow coffee lovers.  Let's do this!

First order of business: MoKaBe's Coffee House

Great little place in downtown St. Louis.  Serves everything from delightful breakfasts to satisfying lunches and delectable dinners. I highly recommend the Blue Mac, their house made veggie burger on a kaiser roll topped with onion, Swiss  pickle, cheddar, ketchup, mustard and (in my opinion the best part) Blue's special sauce.  Just makes my mouth water thinking about it! And hey if you're not a vegetarian (sorry folks), they have some other great options including their Lou melt, B.C.T., chicken salad sandwich, brioche french toast, and buttermilk pancakes.  The atmosphere is so relaxed and the staff are amazing and friendly as all get out.  I love to come and grab a quick bite or drink and study or just hang out.  Now, the coffee! My all time favorite is their Dr. David.

yes that doctor david :)

Anywho, it's a delicious blend of Irish creme and English toffee that almost screams time travelling alien.  But, today we're going to try something different.  The list of lattes fascinated me the first  time I walked in and I plan on trying every one.  So first on the the list is Kelly's Kickerasser.  With a little soy over ice, it mixes the best of both worlds of chocolate and creme de menthe. A perfect treat to help me through my studies.  Well, back to those books I go.  See you tomorrow with a new coffee exploration.
